It was a day just like every other for me It was a day when you don’t know where you will be the next morning for someone else Near the beach, with my partner and my little cousin, A man was sitting on a rock, staring at the horizon, a little puppy wagging his tail Instinctively, I got close to him Tattoos and beard as a pirate, eyes of a child seeking love Smell of cheap wine surrounded us as he softly smiled We didn’t exchange our names, we didn’t need it Though the puppy, Gin, wanted us to know his name He was abandoned in the highway Dead, if it wasn’t for his savior His eyes twinkled as he talked about his little Gin, Ignoring the hateful words And the bitter mocking laugh of the passengers looking at us He took his flute, out of a moment of pure trust, And he started to play it We were now all staring at the horizon, Lulled by the waves of the ocean He didn’t sing that well It didn’t matter Our laughs had the perfect pitch for that afternoon When the day was setting, we left to buy him something to eat Once arrived, he was surprised to see us return We gave food for himself and Gin He cried He just couldn’t stop a drunken brute for everyone a sweet soul for me You call him homeless And change sidewalk I walk toward them They have a story to tell A heart to be discovered I will keep him and his little Gin inside my heart forever Hoping one day All men And women On this earth will be treated in the same way.
